In the interests of adopting a precautionary approach to mineral extraction in the area we raise the following matters.
Is the next evaporation facility going to be near your land?
According to the Summary:
The Augusta Deposit resource, as currently defined, amounts to a three year mine life (pending further resource drilling and underground development). To ensure continuity of operations, other sources of ore need to be progressively discovered and defined.
A "three year mine life" for Augusta. What about the Cuffley lode and its four-year life?
The "project area is in the western catchment of the Lower Goulburn River" (p. 4).
It can be seen that EL3310 is quite a sizeable chunk of real estate. And EL5519 is almost as big as the current operation at Augusta.
What measures do the Regulators have in place to deal with a successful strike? Have they decided where to locate the evaporative facility that will need to be built to deal with dewatering activities?
Or do the Regulators intend to require that another Reverse Osmosis plant be installed?
What measures do the Regulators have in place to provide power to the site should a viable reserve become available and an RO plant be required?
Can the Regulators please inform the people of Costerfield and surrounding areas of the sampling and monitoring regimes they have begun to develop for the site as a contingency measure in light of the presence of Class 3 Indicators such as arsenic and silica?
What Planning and Development initiatives are in place to prepare the people of Costerfield for a further expansion of mineral extraction in their area?
Councillor Elise Chapman has asked us why we don't just sell our land to the mine and move somewhere else. Why? What does she think is going to happen?
